What Grows Here

from CA$400.00

This painting “What Grows Here”, 29 x 46 inches watercolour was inspired very close to where i grew up and played in forests along the Oak Ridges Moraine in Ontario. For millennia plants were gathered for food , medicine and and i am sure  brought hope for weary souls after a long winter.  These stain glass like wildflower light catchers pop up just briefly to take in the suns energy before the forest canopy unfolds. Some species in this painting include the “mourning cloak” butterfly (Nymphalis antiopa), white trilliums, red trilliums, yellow trout lilies, bloodroot, wild ginger , hepetica and hint of may apple in background, sugar maple buds, all in a Carolinian hardwood forest, that covers remnants of glacial moraine left over from the last ice age. Due to agriculture and development of cities and sprawl , these pockets of forest are becoming rare.
